Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding

The Alpine program consists of both downhill skiing and snowboarding. Skiing and Snowboarding are sports that involve athletes descending a slope, which is covered with snow, on either ski’s or a snowboard.

Area 26's Ski and Snowboard team, is looking for new members. No previous skiing or snowboarding experience is necessary, but it does help. The team works with athletes on racing skills.

Athletes compete in slalom, giant slalom, and super-giant slalom.   Area 26 boasts a dedicated group of coaches and athletes. We welcome all levels to come join in the fun!

Alpine Downhill

Alpine skiing is one of the top Special Olympics sports. The Alpine team conducts off mountain (known as dry-land) training beginning in December and on mountain training beginning in January. Both off and on mountain training are on Sunday mornings.

The king of Winter outdoor sports is waiting for you. Whether you are an outright beginner or a slalom racer, we have a great  program with both early Winter dry land training and on-slope practice/competition in January and February. Space is limited (about 15 athletes can travel per year), so sign up soon…

Snowboarding

While newer than Skiing, snowboarding is a VERY popular sport on the slopes.  The movement is more like surfing or skateboarding, and it is a great challenge for those new to mountain sports or who want a change from traditional skiing.  In either case, some slide with us!!!
