Downhill Skiing and Snowboarding
The Alpine program consists of both downhill skiing and snowboarding. Skiing and Snowboarding are sports that involve athletes descending a slope, which is covered with snow, on either ski’s or a snowboard.
Alpine skiing is one of the top Special Olympics sports.
The Alpine team conducts off mountain (known as dry-land) training beginning in December and on mountain training beginning in January. Both off and on mountain training are on Sunday mornings.
Dry land training starts around 10:30am at a local park and runs for an hour. Most of the team carpools to Ski Liberty for on-mountain training and departs from Ravensworth Shopping Plaza at 6:30am, returning at approximately 1:30-2:00pm.
Alpine Skiing and Snowboarding participate in the Pennsylvania Special Olympics State Winter Games and tries to attend one additional competition each season.
Area 26 boasts a dedicated group of coaches and athletes. We welcome all levels to come join in the fun!
